The abbreviation of FSSAI is Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

“Ministry of Health and Family Welfare” Govt of India under Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 is responsible for the food act in India.

FSSAI is an autonomous body to supervise Food Safety, Contaminants, extraneous matter, Food Additives and Residues in food. The Act 2006 is an act to consolidate the laws relating to food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import. Mainly to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

Is it possible to transfer FSSAI license?

Yes, It is possible to transfer to the Legal Representative or any family member in case of death of the FSSAI License holder. They must apply to the concerned authority in favour of the person who is dead.

Large Food manufacturers, processors, transporting and food product importers require Central FSSAI License. Medium sized food manufacturers need State FSSAI License. FSSAI registration is compulsory for Petty food Business operators.
